Dayaks told to learn the Chinese way of success

MIRI: The Dayak community has been urged to be more self-reliant and work hard in order to lead a better life so that they could keep up with the pace of the modern world.

“Learn the Chinese way, they start off with nothing but slowly making a difference to their life with their effort and hard work,” said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau when officiating at the Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society annual Gawai Charity goodies giveaway on Sunday.

Dennis noted that obtaining proper education was vital for the community to advance.

“Education opens the road to success and with that they could make a difference to their life, their family and the society.”

Meanwhile, Dennis took the opportunity to praise the effort of the society for their yearly effort in giving away goodies on all major festivals, regardless of race and religion.

Some 100 destitute and less fortunate members of society received Gawai goodies comprising rice, angpow and dry food items from the society.

Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society chairman Tony Pui acknowledged that the small contribution could help lessen the burden of the recipients in celebrating the festive occasion.

“We always try in whatever way we can to help the less fortunate members of the Miri community irrespective of their race and religion.

“In this respect, we have been having this goodies giveaway during festive seasons as part of our yearly event. We hope that through this, we could lend them moral support and give them a sense of joy, warmth and care,” he said.-Borneo Post
