Adenan predicts 70 seats for BN

BN confident of wresting Dudong from DAP, looks forward to comfortable win

SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is confident that the state Barisan Nasional (BN) will win at least 70 seats in the 11th state election.

He made this forecast at a meet-the-people session at the 91-door Rumah Philip Kayak in the Dudong state constituency together with the direct BN candidate Datuk Tiong Thai King.

The longhouse — the longest in this division — is situated at Sungai Durin some 40km from this town.

Adenan said he was confident that Dudong, which is under DAP, would be among the seats BN would win.

“Among the 82 seats, 70 of them will go to BN and among them (the winning candidates) is Datuk Tiong Thai King, not Benny Lee (former SUPP leader who stands as independent),” said Adenan.

The chief minister also dismissed the chance of DAP retaining the seat because the people still had faith in BN.

“Though we have failed here before, we will win because after five years, DAP did not bring anything to the area.”

Adenan was so confident Tiong would win that he announced reserving RM400,000 to be given to the settlement for development projects through Tiong.

Touching on his decision to stay only for another five-year term, Adenan said he was not power-crazy.

He said his decision was spurred by his near death experience three years ago when he thought he could not make it.

“But God has mercy on me and I recovered. Whatever I have now is a bonus to me.

“Because I was on the brink of death, I now value life better. I want to use my remaining years to serve the people and then retire to spend time with my grandchildren,” he said.

Longhouse chief Philip Kayak, in responding to Adenan’s pledge, said his only request was to rebuild the bridge linking the settlement with the main road.-Borneo Post
