State DAP launches 10-point manifesto

KUCHING: DAP Sarawak launched its election manifesto with a 10-point focus on policy reform to ensure wealth sharing among all Sarawakians.

The 10 points are free public bus services, equitable sharing of forest resources, sharing of land by all, jobs creation, enhancement of Internet coverage, improvement of security, transparency in governance, multi-racial civil service, taxation autonomy and education autonomy.

DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said those 10 points were concise and concrete action plans that were put into context for the people.

“If we win the election, or if we are given bigger majority than before, we will advocate for all these in the state legislative assembly. It is unlike BN’s very general manifesto, which shows lack of commitment,” he told a press conference at party headquarters yesterday.

Chong said with its rich resources, Sarawak should be a state with no poor people.

“The wealth of the state should be distributed and enjoyed by all Sarawakians, not by a handful only. However, all this while the BN policies only take care of a handful of cronies, while 90 per cent of the population find it hard to make ends meet.

“Despite the few populist policies announced by Adenan, he did not implement true reform and change in the system. It is still life as usual for the cronies while the general public suffer under ever-increasing costs of living,” he said.

DAP candidate for Pending Violet Yong, Padungan’s Wong King Wei, Batu Kawah’s Chiew Wang See, Stakan’s Leslie Ting and Batu Kitang’s Abdul Aziz Isa were also present at the press conference.-Borneo Post
