Wong gives out MRP grants to 27 bodies

KUCHING: A total of 27 organisations received minor rural project (MRP) grants from Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday.

The grants totalling RM263,000 were distributed to associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and clubs to enable them to carry out their yearly activities.

Wong pointed out that he had been receiving many requests from various organisations annually.

“However, being one of the very few ministers representing the Chinese community in Sarawak, it is difficult to fulfil the many requests that came into the office,” he said at his office in Baitulmakmur Building here.

The recipients were Music and Drama Association, PB Kuching Tetuan Recreation Club, Beratok Kuching Cultural and Arts Association, Lions Club Kuching Kota Sentosa, JKKK King Centre, Local Government and Community Development Employees Recreation and Welfare Club, Perdara Dance Association, The Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations Sarawak (Youth Section), Taman Satria Jaya BDC Kuching Masy Association, Kuching BDC Welfare Association, Pemandu Group of Health Ministry, Hui Sing Garden Community Welfare Association, Tyng Dance Academy, The Loving Society Kuching, Kuching Hokkien Association (Youth Section), Sarawak Writers Association, Bomba Sports and Welfare Association, Kampung Desa Wira Phase III Women Movement Association, Taman Tabuan Jaya Residents Association, Batu Kawa Women Association, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Women Associations, Sarawak Commercial Photographic Association, Sarawak Chiang Hsia Huang Clan Association, Kuching and Samarahan Hawkers and Traders Association, Riveria Welfare Club and Chinese-Stream Primary School Teachers Union Association.-Borneo Post
